The Planets
This collection of artwork was my first real big design project. It was originally completed at university for an final year art and design module. The brief was to create and design something that communicates information in a visual way. My take on the brief was to design a series of A3 posters designs based on the The Planets of our Solar System, to inform school children about them. Instead of designing the posters in the usual de facto standard way, starfields, nebulae etc, the module leader suggested that I added a theme to the design.
The theme that I applied was to design each of the planets in a design era of the last 100 years. This gave me the opportunity to research design styles over the last 100 years, from Pop Art of the 1960′s, to World War II propaganda posters on the 1940′s.
These designs were completed when I was in my infancy of being a designer. Today, if I were to do it all over again, I know that I would done them a lot different. For example, the Pluto Wireframe design, I would had design the wire frame itself as monochrome green on black, to represent a 1980′s LCD computer screen.
Maybe one day I will redo them?
