Howard Jones – The Official DVD

Background

This DVD was the first proper DVD that I have ever produced. I first started to do this project way back in 2001. Apple had just released DVD Studio ProExternal link and their brand spanking new Titanium PowerBooks, and I was fortunate to get the business case clear for both of these items.

Back then, I knew nothing about DVD technology, so I set upon myself to learn all about it, and how they were made. As always, I set myself a project to learn the in’s and out’s of a new piece of software or technology. So for learning DVD Studio Pro, I decided to do a DVD on Howard Jones. The reasons being that I didn’t want to take on too much work, just in case it was very complicated and I also had the some Howards Jones VHS videos to hand.

As this was my first project in making a DVD, I learnt a lot. The pros, the cons, and most importantly, the mistakes. The finished DVD was in fact version 3! I made quite a few mistakes, especially designing menu screens that were broadcast safe, hence why I didn’t take on too much work.

The finished DVD was ran as a competition on the official Howard Jones websiteExternal link. Only 5 of these DVD’s were ever made, and the competition was a complete success. The DVD was also official endorsed by Howard Jones himself, and is included in the Dtox catalogue (at the time). This is because the DVD only contain videos which were on the Dtox Record labelExternal link. Howard Jones past videos are on The Best of DVD, which I also created.
